Prior to Drake, Woodley won an NAIA championship at Grand View, where he went 72-5 as head coach and didn’t lose a regular season game. Woodley coached both offense and defense on climb up. The position he’ll coach at Rutgers is yet-to-be determined. In 2025, Woodley led Drake to an 8-4 record and an FCS playoff bid. He worked together with new Rutgers DC Travis Johansen at Grand View.

Rutgers is expected to hire South Dakota head coach Travis Johansen as the school's new defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN.

South Dakota head coach Travis Johansen has emerged as the target of the Rutgers’ defensive coordinator search. Johansen is a veteran defensive coordinator, including leading a Top 5 defense in 2024 at South Dakota before being promoted to head coach. As a head coach, Johansen led South Dakota to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs. The finished No. 11 this year. He brings 14 years of defensive coordinator experience.

Sources: Michigan State is expected to hire John McNulty as the new quarterbacks coach. He’s a veteran NFL and college coach with coordinator stops at Rutgers and Boston College. His college stops also include Alabama, Notre Dame and Penn State.
