University at Buffalo will start redshirt junior transfer Elijah Holmes at quarterback, per ESPN sources, and he’ll debut for the Bulls against Albany on Thursday night. Holmes is a Wingate transfer who threw for 3,040 yards and 24 touchdowns last year in Division II. He also ran for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Buffalo plays FIU and Penn State later this month. Sources: FIU has named Appalachian State/Iowa State transfer JJ Kohl the team’s starting quarterback. Kohl threw for 1,465 yards and 12 touchdowns last year at App State. Kohl, who is 6-7 and 250 pounds, will debut for FIU at South Florida on Sept. 5.   Kohl is a former Top 10 pocket passer QB recruit who ranked No. 112 in the Class of 2023 and started his career at Iowa State.
