UAB taking interim tag off coach Alex Mortensen's title
UAB is making Alex Mortensen its permanent head coach, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Thursday.
Sources: UAB football is expected to hire Alex Mortensen as the school’s next head coach. He worked as the interim coach this year in the wake of Trent Dilfer’s dismissal. He beat No. 22 Memphis and won at Tulsa as the interim coach.
Mortensen worked at Alabama for nine years under Nick Saban before coming to UAB as the offensive coordinator. UAB set a record for yards per game under Mortensen in 2023. He’s the son of the late Hall of Fame football reporter Chris Mortensen.
