Barring an unexpected retirement or departure, the high-major coaching carousel is done spinning for the cycle.
Sources: FIU is expected to hire Daytona State head coach Joey Cantens as the school’s next head coach. He’s averaged 27.5 wins the last four years there and brings a 120-40 record over five seasons at the Florida JUCO.
Cantens appealed to the FIU brass because of both local and international experience. He started his career under Leonard Hamilton at FSU and coached professionally in Germany and with the Dominican Republic National Team.
FIU officials are meeting with coach Jeremy Ballard now to inform him of his dismissal, sources tell me and Jeff Borzello. Ballard was 113-141 in his eight seasons at FIU.
