Colson and Kam Thomas connected for an 83-yard touchdown on UTEP's first play from scrimmage and the Miners (1-1) grabbed a 7-0 lead.

Athean Renfro Jr. answered with a 16-yard touchdown run at the end of a 12-play drive to pull Texas Southern (1-2) even after the first quarter.

The Tigers took a 10-7 lead on Miguel Arana III's 43-yard field goal, but Colson followed with a 3-yard touchdown run and a 13-yard scoring toss to Cash Cheeks for a 21-10 halftime advantage.

Colson hit Cheeks for a 13-yard score less than two minutes later, and Tavorus Jones tacked on a 33-yard touchdown run for a 42-10 advantage heading to the final quarter. Jones finished with 104 yards on 16 carries.
