Jakob Gollon hit a 3-pointer with 1:07 left in second overtime that gave Mercer (2-1) the lead for good 72-71. Hall rebounded Seton Hall's missed layup on the next possession before making the critical free throws.

Hall was honored in a pregame ceremony for scoring his 1,000th point. He finished 11 of 12 from the free throw line and had five assists.

Since 2008, the Bears have beaten Alabama (twice), Auburn, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Tennessee and Seton Hall.

Fuquan Edwin had a career-high 35 points for Seton Hall (2-1). Edwin made several big shots in extra time for the Pirates, including a game-tying layup with 12 seconds left in the first overtime. In the second overtime, Edwin drove for a layup which gave the Pirates a 71-69 lead before Mercer scored the next seven points.

Hall had three fouls in the first eight minutes of the game and watched from the bench as Seton Hall went on a 12-4 run to go ahead 25-13 with 7:55 left in the first half. Mercer answered with a 14-3 run which cut the lead to 28-27 at the intermission. The teams traded leads five times before ending regulation tied at 56.

Gene Teague rebounded a missed 3-point attempt with 6 seconds to go. Patrik Auda fouled Teague and sent him to the line. Teague made the first and missed the second intentionally. Darious Moten secured the rebound for Mercer before getting fouled with 1.8 seconds left.

After Moten made 1 of 2 from the line, Brian Oliver got a good look from behind the 3-point arc, but his shot glanced off the front of the rim at the buzzer.

Bud Thomas was 5-of-9 from 3-point range and finished with 17 points for Mercer.

It was the second time in as many meetings that the teams needed overtime to decide the game. Seton Hall won in overtime on December 18, 2011 in their first-ever matchup.
