Frazier's 1st-half outburst leads No. 22 SMU to 98-44 win

The junior guard from Dallas scored 20 of his 23 points in the first half to lead No. 22 SMU to a 98-44 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday.

Frazier broke his career record for 3-pointers in a game before halftime with five. He finished 6 for 10 from behind the arc and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds.

That followed Frazier going scoreless and 0-for-4 from the field last Wednesday night, when the Mustangs needed a closing 8-0 run to beat TCU 75-70.

"My teammates found me when I was open," Frazier said. "Staying confident in my shot. Just come back and forget about that game."

"It's no secret Keith is an outstanding shooter," said Tim Jankovich, SMU's acting head coach. "One of the worst things you can do is make a big thing of a bad shooting night. Guys that have pride, they're going to go work out on their own."

Shake Milton added 20 points for the Mustangs (6-0). Seventeen of those points came in the second half, when Milton hit four of five 3-pointers.

Jaleen Smith led New Hampshire (5-3) with 14 points, hitting three of seven 3-point attempts, and six rebounds.

The Mustangs led 50-20 at halftime, having shot 60 percent to the Wildcats' 23.3. They closed the game on a 28-3 run over the final 9 minutes. The Wildcats were held to 26.7 percent shooting for the game, almost 10 percent below their previous season low.

"It was without question our best defensive effort," Jankovich said.

"Obviously, SMU came out and really dominated us right from the opening tip, and we were never really in the game," New Hampshire coach Bill Herrion said. "We tried to play some zone to start the game because we were very concerned with their size and strength inside."

SMU exploited that size and strength. The Mustangs outrebounded the Wildcats 48-23 and outscored them 36-14 in the paint.

The Mustangs dominated from the outside as well. They were 14 of 25 on 3-pointers compared to New Hampshire's 4 for 24.

DEEP IN THE HEART

New Hampshire completed a two-game trip to Texas that was the program's first visit to the Lone Star State. The Wildcats have six players from Texas on their active roster, and Herrion adjusted his lineup for the games at Abilene Christian and SMU to start five of them.

THREE TO GO

The Mustangs played their sixth game without coach Larry Brown, who is serving a nine-game suspension after the NCAA ruled in September that a former men's basketball administrative assistant completed online course work for a student to meet NCAA initial eligibility and be admitted to the university. SMU is also banned from postseason play this season, including the American Athletic Conference Tournament.

New Hampshire: The Wildcats had three players foul out. That included their best big man, Iba Camara. Averaging 9.7 points and 10.9 rebounds going into the game, Camara took no shots and grabbed one rebound in 10 minutes.

SMU: Frazier had the program's first 20-point first half since Paul McCoy scored 21 on Dec. 31, 2008, en route to 32 in a 92-62 Mustangs win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. . The Mustangs are 32-3 in the renovated Moody Coliseum that opened January 2014.
