Williams layup lifts Texas Tech over Oklahoma State in OT

"If I get the last shot, I ain't missing it," Williams said to Ross. "He (Ross) said, `you better not miss."

Toddrick Gotcher was also considered to take the final shot, but Williams ended up with it and drained a layup with one second left in overtime to give Texas Tech a 63-61 win over Oklahoma State Wednesday night.

Last season, Williams hit a game-winning 3-pointer against Oklahoma State at home.

"I'd seen (Anthony Allen) the tall dude with dreads coming to block the shot," Williams said of his layup. "I didn't know there was another dude on my right. But I just kept my eyes on the rim because we didn't want to go into a second overtime."

Ross finished with a career-high 22 points for Texas Tech (13-8, 3-6) and Gotcher finished with 18 points, including a 3-pointer to force overtime.

Leyton Hammonds had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Cowboys (11-11, 2-7) and Jeff Newberry scored 13 points.

Oklahoma State had a turnover with 15 seconds left in overtime. Texas Tech called a timeout with 11.5 seconds remaining before Williams drove for the winning layup.

The Red Raiders forced overtime after Gotcher's 3-pointer tied the game 53-all with 33.5 seconds left.

Oklahoma State had a shot clock violation on its ensuing possession at the end of regulation. Texas Tech was unable to score when it inbounded with 3.5 seconds left in the second half.

Gotcher hit three crucial 3-pointers: one to force overtime and two game-tying shots in overtime.

"We finished, finally," Gotcher said. "I think it's the second game that we actually finished in the second half. And it's great to see that we are over that hump."

Oklahoma State led 31-23 at halftime after Texas Tech missed its first six shots and later endured a 2-for-14 shooting drought.

Oklahoma State held Texas Tech's three leading scorers, Williams (12.4 points per game), Gotcher (10.6) and Zach Smith (10.1) to four total points in the first half.

Chris Olivier scored 11 points and Jawun Evans added 10 points for Oklahoma State, which did not trail in the second half.

"When you turn it over 21 times and shoot 4 of 17 from 3," Oklahoma State Travis Ford said, mumbling through the last portion of his remark.

Texas Tech: Power forward Norense Odiase suffered a right foot injury against Texas Christian on Jan. 18. Odiase is expected to miss another four weeks. His absence has pushed walk-on Matthew Temple, a 6-foot-10 junior, into the starting lineup.

Oklahoma State: Guard Jawun Evans is having one of the best all-around offensive seasons by a Cowboys point guard ever. The freshman is one of just five players in school history to average at least five assists and 10 points per game.

Texas Tech sophomore forward Justin Gray earned his first start of the season Wednesday. Gray has been a strong bench contributor since recovering from a lower leg injury early this year.
