Tied at 52 midway through the second half, Pine Bluff took the lead for good with a 6-0 spurt capped by Whiting's dunk. Mississippi Valley (6-26, 6-12) pulled to within a point with a pair of free throws from Marcus Romain that made it 61-60 with 6:19 left before Pine Bluff pulled away again with an 8-1 run and hung on the rest of the way.

Romain led Mississippi Valley with a career-high 31 points.
