The game was tied at 71 with 1:28 to go but Morgan made two free throws and Dre Marin added his only points on a layup with 17 seconds left. Jordan Tolbert responded with a quick 3-pointer but Better added two more free throws and a 3-point try by Justin Strings missed.
Southern Utah led by four points at halftime then opened the second half outscoring Sacramento State 17-8, including seven points from Better.
Strings scored 17 points and Tolbert 16 for the Hornets (6-23, 3-13), who have lost eight straight.
