Defense shines as Vermont tops Stony Brook 56-50

Ben Shungu had eight rebounds for Vermont (23-6, 13-2 America East Conference), which earned its fourth consecutive home victory.

Ernie Duncan, the Catamounts' second leading scorer entering the contest at 15 points per game, scored only five points. He shot 17 percent from 3-point range (1 of 6).

Both teams set season lows for scoring in the second half. Vermont put up 20 second-half points, the lowest of the season for the home team, while the 26 second-half points for Stony Brook marked the fewest of the season for the visitors.

Elijah Olaniyi had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Seawolves (23-7, 11-4). Akwasi Yeboah added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Andrew Garcia had 10 points and eight rebounds.
