Match Timeline
- 0': Good evening and welcome to our live minute-by-minute commentary of Chelsea's Champions League group stage meeting with Juventus.
- 0': Hello. I am James Dall, and this is Champions League football - the very pinnacle, people. Oscar makes his first start for Chelsea, which is bold from RDM. A first start? In the UCL? Are you mad, Roberto? Heady times. Let us hope we have not peaked already.
- 0': Chelsea team: Cech; Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry, Cole; Mikel, Lampard, Ramires, Oscar, Hazard; Torres. Subs: Turnbull, Romeu, Mata, Moses, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Bertrand.
- 0': Juventus team: Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Marchiso, Pirlo; Vucinic, Asamoah, Vidal; Giovinco. Subs: Storari, Lucio, Giaccherini, Isla, Marrone, Quagliarella, Matri.
- 0': Let's see what else I've got for you... ah, yes, Buffon makes his 400th appearance for Juventus tonight. That's a tasty stat right there. Eat it up. It's juicy.
- 0': Giovinco is up front for Juve this evening, alongside Vucinic. He is but the very definition of diminutive, standing 5ft 4in. The forward has scored twice in his side's opening Serie A matches this season. One to watch, as they say.
- 0': Torres is warming up and his hair looks thoroughly wetted. Maybe that means goals. Regardless, Jamie Redknapp on the tele is not happy with the Spaniard. Not one bit. He says he's been a huge disappointment.
- 0': Average-to-poor minds, and all that. Will Unwin says to me on Twitter: "Fernando Torres has lovely hair."
- 0': Something a bit more informed from yer man Josef O'Brien: "HUGE for Juve that Vidal is back tonight. They were poor at the weekend despite winning, and Vidal didn't play. Integral."
- 0': Chelsea are parading the Champions League trophy. I could make a John Terry quip. I'll spare you that vinegar in the eyes comedy though.
- 0': Players are in the tunnel. Buffon looks magnificent.
- 0': Players now on the pitch. Pirlo has a beard. What a man. What a beard.
- 0': Official anthem time. Chaaaaaaampions, etc.
- 0': Captains 'JT' and Buffon share a handshake/high five thingy in the centre circle. The one that makes a noise, but isn't a proper high five. You know what I mean.
- 1': KICK-OFF: Juventus get us started.
- 2': Buffon has it after Ramires' header finds no other blue shirt. Good noise from the travelling fans.
- 3': Corner to Chelsea earned by Oscar after a speedy counter from Ramires.
- 4': It is swung in but Torres' head lacks power. It is mopped up by Buffon.
- 5': Another corner for Chelsea. This was causes bother. Possible shirt pull on Terry, while David Luiz bundles it at goal. Buffon is there to gather though.
- 6': Luiz has a bloody nose. He's gone off the field for treatment. Should be fine.
- 7': Just seen a replay of the potential shirt pull. Chiellini certainly took a risk, as his hands were all over Terry.
- 8': Juve surge forward but the pass out to the right is over-hit and the move breaks down.
- 9': Pirlo is limping after being caught by Oscar, who was energetic in his attempt to win back the ball.
- 10': Juve are operating with three at the back, of course. We saw this exploited by Real last night when City operated the same formation.
- 11': Lampard drops a shoulder and then tries an ambitious shot with his left peg. It gets a deflection and is easy for Buffon to claim.
- 12': Ivanovic reads a long pass well by heading it back to Cech. It's a bit bitty at the moment.
- 13': Chelsea awarded their third corner of the night following a Ramires cross.
- 14': A right old tussle going on in the area, but Lampard's corner is too deep for a Chelsea player to connect.
- 15': Some very sloppy play from both sides. We are one bad mistake away from an opener, it seems.
- 16': Mikel is not having the best last few minutes, as he has misplaced a number of passes.
- 17': Corner to Juventus after Vidal's shot was deflected wide.
- 18': Juve take the corner short, and, surprise, surprise, it comes to nothing. Have never understood short corners.
- 19': Chelsea break after Torres wins the ball. He speeds forward and looks to play it left to Hazard, but the pass is too heavy and the attack breaks down.
- 20': Hazard whips a cross to the back post. Torres heads it down across the six-yard box but a Juve defender is there to hack clear.
- 21': Gorgeous first-time cross from David Luiz just then. No-one there, but boy was it a peach.
- 22': Chance for Juve!
- 23': Marchisio races onto a deep pass. He beats the offside trap, but the first touch is a little heavy, allowing Cech to come out and spread himself to make a stop.
- 24': Bewilderment in the Juventus penalty area as Ramires decides against pulling the trigger with his left peg. Torres then has a half-chance, but the ball bobbles away from the Spaniard.
- 25': Carrera barking orders from the touchline, what with Conte banned. You knew that already, but they just showed him on the tele, so I thought I'd paint a child-drawn picture.
- 26': Mikel completes a pass. Progress.
- 27': ANOTHER deep corner from Chelsea sees a potential goalscoring chance go amiss.
- 28': Meanwhile, Juve on the attack, and they win a corner of their own.
- 29': Almost a very smart corner from Juve, as Pirlo drives the ball in low before it is coolly flicked on. But Cole makes a key interception.
- 30': Ramires attempts an outside of the boot strike, but it is lofty and wayward.
- 31': Oooo. Juve spring clear after further sloppy passing. Vidal slips in Vucinic, but the striker's effort ripples against the side-netting.
- 32': GOAL!!! Oscar breaks the deadlock for Chelsea!
- 33': Hazard (who else?) slides the ball across to Oscar, who pings one from about 25 yards out. The ball nicks off a Juve player and loops into the corner of the net. Buffon is aghast.
- 34': GOAL!!! It's 2-0! What a screamer from Oscar.
- 35': Cole passes into Oscar, whose first touch spins him away from two Juve players. He then hits it first time, curling the ball gorgeously into the top corner. Stunner.
- 36': Vidal seeks an immediate response, but his effort is high over the bar as he was leaning back when striking.
- 37': Oscar slips a pass to Hazard, who bombs forward down the left. But, as he looks to beat his man, the turn is not as slick as hoped and Juve mop up.
- 38': GOAL!!! 2-1!
- 39': Vidal pulls one back. He puts the ball onto his left with a neat touch, and is not closed down quickly enough. The Chilean executes a low strike past Cech. Great game thus far.
- 40': Three goals in seven minutes. Delightful.
- 41': Juve have enjoyed 56% of the possession thus far. They've squeezed Chelsea into mistakes in midfield, yet trail.
- 42': Mikel has stunk the place out with his distribution.
- 43': Ramires punts one at goal from a tight-ish angle, and Buffon is forced to parry. Not the most convincing save.
- 44': Giovinco spins on the edge of the area and has a shot, but Cole is there to block away well.
- 45': One minute of added time will be played.
- 45': Juve win a free-kick in a decent position. 20 seconds of the half remaining. Up steps Pirlo.
- 45': Pirlo trots up and dips a free-kick just wide of Cech's post.
- 0': Half-time: Chelsea 2-1 Juventus.
- 0': That was rather enjoyable. Three goals in seven minutes saw this game EXPLODE into life after a series of errors from both sides. Oscar's second was dreamy, but Vidal pulling one back has made it rather interesting indeed. This ain't over (obviously).
- 0': We're approaching the second half. Meanwhile, the office is thinking of Oscar puns. Oscar wild, maybe. Oscar Pis-SCORE-ius, perhaps.
- 46': Second half; Chelsea get us back under way.
- 47': Juve strutting their stuff. They are very much in this. 2-0, prior to Vidal's strike, was an unjust scoreline really.
- 48': Hazard flicks a cross to the back post looking for Ramires but the delivery is a little high for the Brazilian.
- 49': Hopefully Mikel has had a rocket up his backside during half-time. His first half showing made him a liability.
- 50': Ooof!
- 51': Hazard switches the ball to Ivanovic. He winds up and hits a dipping strike, which Buffon gets a strong arm to, tipping it wide.
- 52': Free-kick to Chelsea in a promising position just 20 yards out from goal.
- 53': Lampard HAMMERS it past the wall but straight into the fists of Buffon. Still 2-1.
- 54': Torres, who has been out of sorts this evening, digs out a cross. Ramires attacks the ball, but Buffon plucks the ball out of the air.
- 55': Ramires collided into Buffon during that attack. He is on the deck and now receiving treatment. Should be okay.
- 56': Still super noise emanating from the pocket of Juve fans.
- 57': A reminder of Pirlo's beard. It looks brilliant.
- 58': Is that a penalty?
- 59': No, says the ref. Hazard gets in front of Barzagli, who is clumsy. The Belgian goes down. Could have been given, most certainly could have, but it wasn't.
- 60': Free-kick to Juve in a cracking area for Pirlo to bend on. Ramires is also booked for the challenge. He raised his foot, but did win the ball.
- 61': Tut. Pirlo doesn't take it. Giovinco does instead and loops it over the bar. Pffft.
- 62': Cute play from Buffon and Chiellini gets Juve out of a spot of bother.
- 63': Giovinco controls a high ball expertly with his chest. He cuts in from the left and curls to the far corner. Cole is there to head clear.
- 64': Juve whip in a corner, but a combination of Bonucci and Mikel sees the ball deflect out of play.
- 65': Neat move from Juventus sees them press forward. It is worked left but Asamoah's ball into the box is dreadful.
- 66': Massive block from David Luiz. Marchisio floats into a dangerous area and is threaded through. He winds up to fire at goal, but Luiz is there to stamp out the danger.
- 67': Booking for Vidal for a foul on Hazard. He pulled him back cynically.
- 68': Yellow aside, Vidal has been a monster in the middle.
- 69': Torres is furious after attempting to beat Chiellini but ultimately falling onto his backside.
- 70': Oscar is down injured after being caught on his shin.
- 71': Chelsea change: Bertand for Ramires.
- 72': Oscar has come back onto the field, but looks in some pain. He's wincing.
- 73': Giovinco occupies a pocket of space in between midfield and defence. He is found, heads towards goal, but his strike is lofty and poor.
- 74': Chiellini finds himself quite far forward, but a nosebleed ensues as he flicks a left-footed pass straight to Cech.
- 75': Mata replaces two-goal Oscar.
- 76': Giovinco, who has been disappointing, is replaced by Quagliarella.
- 77': Chiellini shuts the door on a Hazard spurt forward as he barges him over.
- 78': Isla comes on for Lichsteiner.
- 79': Chelsea now with 51% of the ball, which is a far better return than the first half.
- 80': So almost a brilliant goal. Hazard and Mata combine terrifically well, exchanging neat passes. But Mata's blast at goal is the wrong side of the post by a whisker.
- 81': GOAL!!! 2-2! Quagliarella levels.
- 82': A mistake from Mikel hands Juventus possession. Marchisio then slots a lovely ball into the substitute Quagliarella, who beats the offside trap as he spins of Terry. The forward rolls the ball under Cech.
- 83': Isla picks up the ball on the right and zips in a cross. But the delivery is too near Cech, who scoops up the ball.
- 84': Vucinic currently receiving treatment. Mikel looks glum, meanwhile.
- 85': Juve have their tails up. They are searching out a win here.
- 86': Woodwork!
- 87': Quagliarella rolls his man in the box and clips a sweet shot towards the top corner. It flicks off the bar, though, and over.
- 88': Vucinic is replaced by Matri.
- 89': Pinball in the Juve box as a Lampard free-kick causes havoc. Torres pounces on a loose ball but the strike batters off a defender.
- 90': Three minutes of added time will be played.
- 90': Chiellini has been a colossus at the back for Juventus.
- 90': Chelsea with the ball, but Juventus are holding their shape well.
- 90': Luiz humps one forward, but Torres can't keep the ball in.
- 0': Full-time: Chelsea 2-2 Juventus
- 0': A cracking match. Oscar will likely steal the headlines, such is his pun-eriffic name, and his second being an absolute peach. Juventus, though, were impressive. A super point for them, and they almost won it as Quagliarella hit the bar late on.
- 0': Thank you for your company this evening. It's been a hoot. For all the reaction, keep your eyes peeled on ESPN FC. Cheerio.
