A-League Women News

Chief football officer Ernie Merrick has become the latest high-profile figure to depart Football Australia as the organisation experiences further upheaval following the exit of former chief executive James Johnson.

Amid uncertainty around Western United's viability, the club says it's close to striking a deal for coach John Aloisi to return, and a takeover to secure the future of the Tarneit outfit is in its 'final stages'.

A-League boss Stephen Conroy says the competition has yet to receive a formal takeover bid for crisis-stricken Western United, who are facing fresh breach notices from players for unpaid wages.

With the men's and women's A-League seasons completed, once again questions are being raised about the future of football in Australia.

Interim Matildas boss Tom Sermanni was scathing in his criticism of the A-League Women on Thursday, saying the state of the competition was "just not good enough."
