- 16': Barca win free-kcik just outside the area. Rochemback shoots all along the floor, Given watches it go wide

- 20': Reiziger finds some space down the left, he crosses but Bernard defends well
- 22': Reiziger finds more space on the left. He looks to get a cross in. He plays it back to Riquelme, looks for Kluivert but the ball rolls through to Given
- 23': Bellamy speeds past Andersson, looks up and sees Shearer in the box. He tries to cross but the ball skews off and out for a goal-kick
- 26': Bramble loses his concentration and almost allows Barca through but the ball breaks for Given
- 28': Griffin bursts forward and plays in a cross. Valdes flies out to just about claim it, although he looks uncomfortable on crosses
- 30': Griffin gives it straight to Kleuivert, sloppy ball. He looks to work a quick one-two but the ball is overhit and Given claims it
- 31': Dyer bursts through the middle. A good challenge comes in. Shearer wins it back and Dyer tries again, foul, free-kick about 40 yards out
- 32': Robert tries a long-range shot, Valdes scrambles across the goal and just sees it go wide
- 33': Shearer flicks it through for Bellamy, he's got time and space, he shoots but it just clears the crossbar. Unlucky
- 35': Mendieta flies down the wing on the overlap. Griffin loses concentration, Mendieta just can't get there thankfully for Newcastle

- 84': Griffin lifts in a hopeful cross. It breaks on the left for Bernard, he returns it. Reiziger defends well
- 86': Bernard breaks, looks for Bellamy, he drives it across, good save, no Newcastle player is closing in, Barca clear
- 87': Bellamy picks it up just outside the area. He changes feet, strikes left-footed, over the bar
- 89': Newcastle still going forward but it will only be a consolation. They have a throw midway in the Barca half
