South Africa's preparation for their Women's Africa Cup of Nations defence in Morocco has been hampered by off-field issues, but two former players have backed Banyana Banyana to overcome their difficulties.

With the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (July 5-26) around the corner, there have been some standout performers in the warm-up games, with Nigeria's Rasheedat Ajibade, now a free agent, topping the rankings.

With the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, being played in Morocco from 5-26 July, not featuring NWSL superstar Temwa Chawinga (read here to find out why), who else should fans be keeping an eye on at the continental showpiece?

Defending champions South Africa will head into the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco from July 5-26 without star striker Thembi Kgatlana, with her withdrawal attributed to undisclosed personal reasons.

Liga MX Femenil quartet Thembi Kgatlana (Tigres UANL), Jermaine Seoposenwe (Monterrey), Amogelang Motau and Hildah Magaia (both Club Tijuana) headline the Banyana Banyana squad to face against Malawi in April.

South Africa striker Kgatlana, who currently plays for Tigres UANL in Mexico's Liga MX Femenil, expects a backlash from defending champions Banyana's rivals in July, when the next Women's Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Morocco.

Former South Africa football captain Janine van Wyk, who led Banyana Banyana to their first World Cup, announced on Tuesday that she and partner Julia Molin are expecting a baby.

Africa has always had tremendous depth in the goalscoring department and this was demonstrated in December, particularly for players based in France.

It's 2025, and African sports fans have plenty to be excited about across multiple sports, from football (both kinds), to the NBA, BAL, college sports, cricket, the Springboks rugby team, and more.
