Chiney Ogwumike keys Stanford's trouncing of Hawaii

Chiney Ogwumike had 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead Stanford to a 69-42 win over Hawaii. Hours before the game, Ogwumike was tweeting about her school's football team as it took on No. 1 Oregon, eventually winning in overtime.

"It's a great day to work at Stanford," coach Tara VanDerveer said.

The Cardinal (4-0) dominated one night after upsetting No. 1 Baylor at the start of the Rainbow Wahine tournament in Honolulu. They never trailed against the host team and had four players score in double figures.

At one point in the first half, Ogwumike had 13 rebounds to Hawaii's 13 as a team. Joslyn Tinkle finished with 16 points, Amber Orrange scored 13 and Toni Kokenis had 12.

Tinkle said her team tried to build off the excitement of beating Baylor.

"It's a big confidence booster and we enjoyed it," she said. "We celebrated and soaked it in as much as we could, but as soon as we woke up this morning, we were ready to go."

Stanford scored 14 unanswered points midway through the first half and led by 18 at the break. The Cardinal led by as much as 29 in the second half and were never seriously threatened.

Freshman Ashleigh Karaitiana scored 14 points for Hawaii (1-2), which shot just under 31 percent. Hawaii made 16 shots total for the night.

"You're playing against a Final Four team and we're not ranked," coach Laura Beeman said. "So we knew it was going to be a tough night and that we had to play excellent basketball and we did not."

Kamilah Martin had nine points and six rebounds for the Rainbow Wahine.

One night after the women's basketball team upset No. 1 Baylor, the football team knocked off the top-ranked Ducks.

"Great start boys," Ogwumike tweeted after a Stanford touchdown before the start of her game, while No. 1 Baylor and UT Martin played in the tournament's early matchup.

The Cardinal face UT Martin on Sunday to finish the round robin.

VanDerveer said her team understands the trip is a three-game mission.
