No. 10 Louisville women rout Old Dominion 100-46
The senior guard had 12 points, 10 assists and six rebounds and the Cardinals rebounded from a loss to No. 8 Kentucky to rout Old Dominion 100-46 on Monday night.
Schimmel, who went scoreless and had as many turnovers (four) as assists before fouling out of Louisville's 77-68 loss to the Kentucky on Dec. 7, was 5-for-9 from the field, including 2 of 3 from 3-point range, against the Monarchs (5-3).
"My shots haven't really been falling (lately) and sometimes I get frustrated with that, but my coach and my teammates keep telling me that that's not all it's about," said Schimmel, who was 0 for 6 from the field against Kentucky. "I understand that, but Coach (Jeff) Walz keeps telling me that if my shots aren't falling then to look to my teammates and the scoring will come easy."
The Cardinals (9-1) shot 52 percent from the field, including 64.3 percent from 3-point range.
Freshman forward Mariya Moore scored 15 points to lead Louisville, which led 54-19 at the half and had a season-high 59 rebounds. Sara Hammond had 14 points, Myisha Hines-Allen added 12, Bria Smith and Emmonnie Henderson each had 11 each and Megan Deines finished with 10. Henderson led the rebounding effort with nine.
"We played the best I think we've played all year," Walz said.
"(Our) outside shooting, it was very, very good," said Walz, whose team was 9 for 14 from long range. "Part of it was because we passed the ball so well. We really didn't have too many contested threes. We made the extra pass. We made the quick passes."
The Cardinals closed the first half with a 20-3 surge to lead by 35.
Louisville shot 62.5 percent (20 for 32) in the second half, which was highlighted by one Cardinals' fast break. It started when Schimmel grabbed a rebound, pushed the ball to midcourt and passed to Moore, who jumped to catch the ball and made a deft touch-pass to Hammond for a layup.

MONARCHS STILL 18 AWAY FROM 1,000
The loss kept Old Dominion 18 victories shy of the 1,000-victory plateau. The loss dropped the Monarchs to 982-373 in program history. Only Tennessee and Louisiana Tech have reached 1,000 wins in Division I.
UGLY SWEATERS ABOUND
The game was billed as "Ugly Sweater Night" for Louisville fans, and Walz and his staff got into the act. Walz wore a red, white and black sweater that featured snowflakes, Christmas trees and the Cardinals' logo.
"We liked it," Schimmel said. "I like our coaches, they all have a sense of humor and they bring a lot of things to the table. That makes us happy and excited to go to practice. We actually don't own ugly sweaters, but I think we are planning an Ugly Sweater Party for our team soon."
