Louisville Cardinals at Miami Hurricanes

No. 10 Louisville beats No. 17 Miami 79-51

The No. 10 Cardinals proved again they far from resemble the team that started the season 1-4 after a dominant 79-51 win over No. 17 Miami on Thursday night.

Myisha Hines-Allen scored 15 points to lead Louisville, which has won 20 of its last 21.

"We know we can't take anything for granted, knowing the start that we had," Hines-Allen said. "We try to look at that and see how we can continue to grow as a team and we're learning pretty well."

The Cardinals (23-6, 14-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) broke the game open with a 20-2 surge that ended the second quarter. Hines-Allen scored seven points during the spurt and Asia Durr's layup at the buzzer ended the run and gave Louisville a 40-21 lead at halftime.

Louisville held Miami (22-6, 10-5) without a field goal the final 7:43 of the half. The Hurricanes were 0 for 8 from the field and committed four turnovers during the drought.

"I didn't see that coming," Louisville coach Jeff Walz said. "We knew that Miami is very well coached. We really had a lot of respect and we still do for their ball club. We played extremely well."

Mariya Moore scored 14 points and Brihanna Jackson finished with 13 points for Louisville. Durr was the Cardinals' fourth double-figure scorer with 11 points.

Adrienne Motley scored 12 for Miami.

"That effort by Louisville was outstanding," Miami coach Katie Meier said. "You have to give them a lot of credit."

Miami scored five unanswered points to start the third period before the Cardinals responded with a 21-0 run. Hines-Allen's two free throws with 3:17 remaining capped the surge and increased Louisville's lead to 61-26.

"I'm really happy for them," Walz said. "It was not a pretty month of November. We had some struggles but we figured it out."

Among the fans celebrating the Cardinals' victory at Bank United Center on Thursday were members of the men's team, which will play at Miami on Saturday.

STAT LINES:

Louisville: The Cardinals out-rebounded Miami, 53-28, including 22-8 on the offensive end. Four of the offensive rebounds came in Louisville's first possession of the game.

Miami: The loss assured a fifth-place conference finish for the Hurricanes, their highest since they tied for fourth in 2012-13.

TIP-INS:

MIAMI: Guard Michelle Woods was honored before the game as part of the Hurricanes' senior night ceremony. Woods is the only senior on the Miami roster.

LOUISVILLE: The Cardinals finished 8-0 in conference road games.
