  • 7': The home fans are furious after Beckham is tackled and left in heap on the floor, but Monaco break
  • 8': Ludovic Giuly breaks through the Real backline and recieves a pass put is flagged offside - lucky escape!
  • 9': Raul, after a lightening quick Real counter-attack, manages to get a shot away, but it is just too high and lands on the roof of the goal
  • 10': Not your typical European encounter so far. The pace is high and there have been a few chances already - Monaco could get something on the break
  • 10': Iker Casillas makes a hash of an easy catch in the area and he'll be glad to hoof it down the other end to compose himself
  • 12': Good work from Givet in the centre of midfield for Monaco not allowing any time to Beckham, Guti and Zidane
  • 13': Rothen clatters into Salgado and Real have a freekick on the right wing
  • 14': Beckham swings in a decent pacey ball from the wing but the resulting header in the area loops over the goal and out of play
  • 15': A superb move from Real is greeted with applause. Salagdo and Zidane worked a great chance and but for a fantastic block Ronadlo would have scored. Great move, great defending!

  • 16': Giuly works it down the right and gets a ball in for Morientes, but his effort is wide - Real must watch the quick break
  • 17': Raul Bravo is off the field getting attention for a knock
  • 18': Salgado clears a Giuly effort of the line after Ivan Helguera made a complete mess of a routine clearance. Another escape.
  • 19': Corner for Real
  • 20': Figo takes, but Monaco clear it and the ball is in the Real half
  • 21': Sweet passing play from Real with Beckham, Figo and Ronaldo work an opening but Beckham is tackled heavily, but fairly
  • 22': Finally a quiet spell in the game! The pace has been relentless
  • 23': Givet sends a ball from left to right looking for Morientes, but Casillas is off his line and gathers

  • 25': Rothen and Morientes push on again only for Zikos to squander possession - not for the first time
  • 26': Ronaldo gets in behind he last defender, the angle is too tight and he is forced to wait for support. Zidane and Raul arrive but Ronaldo's pass is poor

  • 28': Figo swings the corner in and Helguera wastes a clear header and Monaco escape
  • 28': Raúl Bravo is unable to continue and is substituted for Pavón
  • 29': A chance for Monaco, the shot comes in Rothen and Casillas manages to gather it in on the second time of asking, but a sqaure ball to Morientes looked the better option
  • 30': Figo dazzles the crowd with a few clever dummies and gets a pass away to Zidane
  • 31': Real have a corner which Zidane takes quick and short to Beckham - his shot cannons of a defender and finds it way to Figo on the right
  • 32': Figo gets space to cross after some great ball skills but Ronaldo squanders the best chance of the game by putting the ball wide. Poor by his standards.
  • 33': Freekick to Real about 30 yards out is taken quick by Zidane and he hits the post!
  • 35': Another shot for Real, this time Figo, but it is overhit! A breakneck period from Real - but still no goals
  • 36': Beckham retreats to a deep role and looks to pull the strings - he puts a pass out to the left wing and finds Zidane
  • 37': Monaco win it and release Giuly - he runs at the Real goal and tries a low shot but it's saved. Great break but again with Morientes in a better position perhaps the Monaco players should try passing in the penalty area
  • 38': Anyone notice that Guti is trying his best to copy David Beckham's haircut? No. Ok, well he is.
  • 39': Lucas Bernardi goes on the book for a tackle on Beckham - seemed harsh given that Becks was struggling to win back the ball, throwing himself around after losing possession. Still, in the book he goes.
  • 40': Monaco winning almost everything in the middle
  • 41': Another break from Monaco. Giuly benefits from a Helguera slip and has his shot blocked.
  • 42': More pressure from Monaco, this time down the left from Bernardi
  • 42': Goal!!
  • 43': The ball dropped in the box to Giuly he tried a cross-cum-shot and it fell to centreback Sebastien Squillaci who swung his leg at the ball and scored. No more than they deserved. A shock on the cards?
  • 44': Yet more pressure on Real as Monaco win a corner
  • 44': The kick is poor and Real break
  • 45': Freekick to Real in Beckham country - Ronaldo tackled unfairly from behind about 35 yards out.
  • 46': Beckham steps up but the ball slams into the wall...and the whistle goes for halftime
  • 46': A good half ? especially for the French team! No one was giving them a chance before the game but they have a deserved away goal. Real have had their share of chances, and the better chances at that, but the finishing has been below the own high standards and they have paid the price for their profligacy.
  • 46': Join us for the next 45 minutes to see if Real can either get back on level terms or get humiliated by the team that all thought would be flattened by the Galacticos!
  • 46': Here we - second half
  • 46': Ronaldo flicks one to Beckham, but the defender reads it well and the pass is cut out
  • 46': Figo tries his luck, but it flies out for a goalkick
  • 47': Guti sends a quick ball to Zidane who tries to kill the speed and release Raul at the same time with a back-heel, but Squillaci reads it
  • 47': Foul by Mejía gives a freekick to Monaco by the corner flag
  • 48': The ball is whipped in at pace but Casillas punches clear
  • 49': The stadium is subdued thanks to Real's misses and the surprise scoreline
  • 49': Bernardi fouls Salgado and a freekick is given on the right hand side of the penalty area - Salgado looks hurt.
  • 49': Beckham floats the ball in and Raul heads it straight at Roma
  • 50': Corner to Real on the left - Beckham will take
  • 50': Goal for Real!
  • 51': Controversy here as the linesman rules that the ball has crossed the line. A brave call but it looks accurate. The ball crossed the line after a scramble ? its unclear who is claiming it, maybe Pavon or a Squillaci og, but Real are back it the match.
  • 53': Rough challenge on Zidane, foul given in the middle
  • 54': Salgado rejoins the game to applause but the hip he landed on some minutes ago looks to be causing him problems

  • 55': REal really getting into the swing of things now - the zone!
  • 56': Ronaldo fires a wonderful volley at the keeper who turns it out for a corner - great shot!
  • 57': The corner is taken quickly by Zidane - but it comes to nought
  • 58': Wonderful skill from Zidane releases Mejía on forward drive
  • 59': Real turning on the style with some one-touch, quick pass football - great stuff but while its nice to look at they need more penetration and a goal or two
  • 61': Lucas Bernardi tries a shot from range but there is no danger for Casillas who watches it go out
  • 62': Figo goes to ground too easily after trying and failing to beat to players - ref having nothing of it
  • 63': Figo whips a ball in looking for Ronaldo but Monaco break free
  • 64': Beckham breaks down the Monaco move and sends a ball up front
  • 64': Great workrate from Beckham who chases up the pitch to collect the ball and try a shot from a tight angle
  • 65': Edouard Cissé leaves the game for Monaco to be replaced by Pla?il
  • 66': Beckham takes a corner for Real, who are really pressing their advantage at the moment
  • 67': Zidane is trying to work his magic through the middle, but it is too congested they need to work the flanks
  • 68': Zidane goes down under a tackle from Bernardi as he tries to pirouette in the box - the ref waves play on and Beckham fires his shot in but to no avail
  • 69': The crowd are furious with the ref for the decision - they felt it was a penalty, but Zidane made a meal of it and Becks was in a good position to shoot
  • 70': Real score!!
  • 71': Zidane fires in at the near post after collect a spilt shot. Guti fed Zidane who passed unselfishly to Figo, his shot wasn't gather by the keeper and Zidane did the rest!
  • 71': Zidane fires in at the near post after collect a spilt shot. Guti fed Zidane who passed unselfishly to Figo, his shot wasn't gather by the keeper and Zidane did the rest!
  • 72': Quality defending from Helguera to deny Giuly after a wonderful move from the visitors
  • 73': Sunbs for both sides warming up
  • 74': Monaco sense their chance and exploit some spaces in the Real half with Bernardi and Giuly
  • 75': Penalty for Real...
  • 76': ...which Figo scores!
  • 77': Figo's spot kick was saved brilliantly by Roma's left hand but Figo used head to get the goal. The kick was conceded by Squillaci who hacked at Ronaldo who was showing his step-over skills!
  • 78': A change for Real with Borja coming on Guti
  • 79': A great first half for Monaco, but they have been steam-rollered in the second spell by a Real Madrid side that have looked, at times, awesome
  • 80': Ronaldo makes it 4!
  • 81': Zidane slipped a perfectly weighted ball to Ronaldo and he fired the ball from the right of the box, after gaining space on two markers, into the corner of the net
  • 82': Goal for Monaco!
  • 83': Morientes has scored with a towering header and the law of the returning striker lives on. Morientes, on loan at Monaco for the season, is a big favourite at the Bernabeu and the home fans are clapping his goal!
  • 84': Ronaldo is off having been replaced by Solari
  • 85': Monaco are still up for this game - two away goals and the tie that looked over after Real's fourth now doesn't seem such a foregone conclusion
  • 86': Figo gets a talking to from the ref after going over on Patrice Evra's legs in a terrible tackle. Erva is in real pain.
  • 87': Evra is in trouble and can't carry on. Figo looks as guilty as he should, shocking tackle that could well have broken some bones.
  • 88': Erva is stretchered off and in his place comes El Fakiri. That sort of thing spoils what has been a great game of football.
  • 90': We're going to have about 5 minutes of added time
  • 91': Figo goes on a run down the left and wins the home side a corner
  • 92': The kick goes in, but is cleared
  • 93': Beckham flies in with a rash tackle and gets a booking
  • 94': And that means Becks will miss the return leg in Monaco
  • 95': The final whistle goes and that's full time
  • 95': Real took a while to get into the groove tonight. Some good early pressure got no goals and Monaco moved in and got what they deserved. But in the second half Real showed their quality and their awesome firepower. Can Monaco get back into things? Well, it will be one of the finest comebacks the competition has known if they can!
