Martin leads Oklahoma St to 73-42 blowout of No. 14 Sooners
Brittney Martin scored 19 points, surpassing 1,500 for her career, and added 14 rebounds to lead the Cowgirls to a dominating 73-42 victory over No. 14 Oklahoma.
"I'm very proud of our group and what they did on the floor today," said OSU coach Jim Littell. "It was a total team win, we had a lot of people step up. I'm very proud of our defensive effort. At K-State the other night, they made plays at the end, but we were playing not to lose instead of playing to win, and I thought today, we played to win."
It was the biggest win for OSU in the rivalry, called "Bedlam," since an 88-57 road triumph on Jan. 29, 1997.
"(We were motivated by) how the last game went, and how the last game against OU went last year," Jensen said of the Sooners' 66-56 win here last March. "We just wanted to avenge that loss, so we really came out with a lot of fire in our pants today. It was fun."
"We were miserable in pretty much every phase of the game. There wasn't anything we did well," said OU coach Sherri Coale. "There's not a lot of disguising what happened. They were tougher, they were stronger, they had more energy, they had more confidence. They beat us in every single phase of the game, start to finish."
Leading 32-17 at halftime, Oklahoma State continued to control the game early in the third quarter, using an 11-2 run to push its lead to 43-19 after Karli Wheeler's fast break layup with 3:35 elapsed.
Jensen's two free throws with 49 seconds left in the third increased the Cowgirl lead to 28 at 52-24, and OSU carried a commanding 53-26 advantage into the fourth. Oklahoma scored the first six points of the final quarter to pull to within 21 points, but never got any closer the rest of the way.
"We guarded pretty well," said Littell, whose team has limited six of its last seven opponents under 50 points. "To hold Oklahoma to 42, I'm very proud of our defensive effort. We did a good job today of using our defense to create some offense, and I thought we did a good job of getting back in transition."

Oklahoma State: Besides becoming the 11th Cowgirl to surpass the 1,500-point plateau, senior guard Brittney Martin moved up several other OSU career lists. Her 14 rebounds give her 955, moving her past Shaunte Smith into fourth place on the Cowgirl career list, while her two blocked shots edged her past Liz Donohoe into 10th with 74.
