Match Timeline
- 0': Charlton travel to Upton Park this afternoon knowing a win will take them level on points with the Hammers. However their recent away form suggests it could be a difficult afternoon for them as the Addicks have won just once on their travels in the last ten attempts.
- 0': Both managers will want to get one over on their old clubs and West Ham will be hoping to give Teddy Sheringham a 40th birthday present to remember. Alan Pardew will be looking for West Ham to get back to the rampaging from they showed throughout January and February.
- 0': As a possible dry run for the forthcoming FA Cup semi-final there should be plenty of local passion and pride on display as both teams look to strike what could be an important psychological blow.
- 0': Dean Ashton and Marlon Harewood will be looking to score the goals for West Ham this afternoon, with Sheringham starting on the bench. Rommedahl comes in for Charlton on the right and Matt Holland makes his one hundredth appearance for the club.
- 0': The familiar refrain of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles resounds around Upton Park as West Ham kick off. There has been a short but sharp hailstorm just before the kick off which should make the pitch quite slippy.
- 0': Romedahl tries to turn inside Mulins but the West Ham defender wins the ball.
- 1': Holland lofts a ball in to the area but Danny Gaddidon clears for a throw in.
- 2': Bent (Darren) is fouled and Charlton have a free kick wide on the right. Rommedahl take it but Shaka Hislop comes and claims it easily.
- 3': A long throw in at the other end from Benayoun is flicked on by Ferdinand but Ashton, under pressure, can't keep his shot down and it goes over the Chartlon bar. A decent half chance.
- 5': Marcus Bent chases Rommedahl's long ball down the right wing but his cross in to the six yard box drifts harmlessly away from goal.
- 6': Hughes feeds it wide to Bent but Charlton don't manage to make their possession count and West Ham come away with the ball. At the other end Harewood shows good control and improvises a shot which is deflected for a corner.
- 7': Etherington swings in the corner but Charton scramble it away evenetually.
- 8': Benayoun shows good feet to set up Reo-Coker but his long range effort fails to trouble Myhre.
- 9': Harewood's driving run is followed by a cross in to the Charlton area which Kishishev deals with well for the Addicks. He clears the ball to safety.
- 10': Charlton carelessly lose possession and Etherington floats a tantalising ball in to the box but it is too close to Myhre who comes to take it.
- 11': Rommedahl and Marcus Bent forage down the West Ham right and when the cross comes in West Ham look stretched as they try to deal with the high ball. They eventually clear although they looked a bit shaky.
- 13': The game has an open feel to it but neither side have really stamped their authority on it so far.
- 14': Benayoun threads a lovely ball through to Harewood but the West Ham striker is adjudged to be offside.
- 15': Harewood pulls out to the right and gets a cross in which poses no problems for Myhre.
- 16': There will be several players on view today hoping to catch Sven Goran Erikkson's eye before he announces his World Cup squad for the summer.
- 17': Konchesky is well tackled by Luke Young as he drifts infield towards the Charlton goal.
- 18': Konchesky and Etherington link down the left but Konchesky's delivery is weak and easily cleared by the Charlton defence.
- 20': Collins mis-heads a high ball over the top and Marcus Bent just fails to capatalise on his mistake. West Ham regain their composure and clear once more.
- 22': Reo-Coker plays the ball out wide to Ferdinand who delivers a decent ball in to the box. Ashton manages to reach the ball with his head but cannot meet it with enough power to trouble Myhre.
- 24': Ashton comes deep to get the ball and slams the ball hard towards the goal. Hreirdarsson earns his money by getting in the way of Ashton's rasping drive. That looked like it hurt.
- 25': Etherington and Ashton come down the left but Luke Young puts in a good tackle to concede the corner.
- 26': Benayoun's corner is hit straight at Myhre.
- 27': The atmosphere is quite flat at Upton Park considering it is a local derby. This seems to have translated on to the park where there is a distinct lack of passion.
- 27': Rommedahl gets in to a good position but twice produces sub standard crosses on the left for Charlton.
- 28': Luke Young has been booked for a rash challenge. That is the England defender's eight caution of the season.
- 29': Luke Young shows good composure whilst under pressure from Harewood. Of the England contenders on show, Young has committed himself the best.
- 31': Holland feeds Rommedahl out on the right but Gabbidon stretches to block his cross. West Ham clear up the park.
- 32': Benayoun and Etherington look the two most likely to create something for the Hammers. Most of West Ham's good play is coming through these two.
- 33': Bryan Hughes some some great wing play to fool Ferdinand and puts a fine left footed cross in to the six yard box. West Ham have to clear for a corner.
- 34': West Ham deal with the corner and now attach with Konchesky. He finds himself in the Chartlon penalty area and tries to get the ball to Ashton but Myhre gets between them to block the pass.
- 36': Ferdinand cuts inside and tries a long range effort with his weaker left foot but the ball sails over the Charlton crossbar.
- 37': Some sloppy play from Darren Bent allows Konchesky to take the ball from him when Luke Young was racing into a good position on the right.
- 38': West Ham are knocking the ball around and eventually it breaks to Ferdinand wide on the right of Myhre's goal. He hits it well but the ball is wide of the target.
- 40': Hreidarsson delivers a fine ball in to West Ham's area but the West ham defence head the ball to the relative safety of the midfield.
- 41': Some good play again by Hughes is halted when Darren Bent is blown up for offside.
- 42': Hughes attempts a headed clearance which only goes as far as Harewood. He shows good technique to hit a volley but again it fails to trouble Myhre.
- 44': At the other end, Darren Bent cuts inside Ferdinand and attempts an ambitious curling long range effort which goes just wide of Hislop's left hand post.
- 45': HALF TIME
- 45': Almost no time added on and that says something about the game. Not much of any incident has occured and the game is in need of an injection of life. Perhaps Mr Sheringham could be the person to provide that?
- 45': Sheringham has come on for the second half and Dean Ashton is the man who has made way for the veteran striker.
- 45': Charlton have won a corner almost immediately at the start of the second half. Rommedahl hits it in but West Ham clear for another corner.
- 45': A better delivery from Rommedahl this time but Gabbidon still manages to head the ball away from the danger zone.
- 46': Etherington's cross is blocked at the other end and now the Hammers have a corner. Kishishev gets it away
- 46': Konchesky tries a low rasping shot cum cross which needed a slight touch to deflect it goalwards. It doesn't get one.
- 48': Wonderful play through the middle by Benayoun who just can't get the angle for a decent shot as he approaches the Charlton goal.
- 49': Ferdinand hits a long hopeful ball forward to nobody in particular which Charlton are happy to allow to run out of play.
- 50': Collins chips a ball to Harewood who in turn finds Reo-Coker before the ball is finally hit in towards Sheringham. He challenges Myhre but the Charlton goalie was always going to win that one.
- 52': AS Ashton was not injured, it is clear that Pardew is hoping Sheringham's guile can inspire his team.
- 53': Rommedahl takes on Konchesky and wins a corner for Charlton. He drifts a ball in but West Ham clear the ball for a throw in.
- 54': Charlton have another corner and this is the first bit of concerted pressure they have exerted in the game. Harewood gets to the ball and Charlton have another corner. Rommedahl hits it deep but West Ham defend it well enough.
- 56': Good ball from Konchesky up to Harewood who holds off Perry but the Charlton defender sticks to his task and ushers Harewood off the ball before winning the tackle.
- 57': From about forty yards out Collins hits a fierce drive which just goes over Myhre's crossbar. Worth a go and gave the crowd something to get excited about.
- 58': Holland wins a good ball in the middle and plays it to Darren Bent. From a hard angle the Charlton man forces Hislop in to a save but West Ham bring the ball away. They take it up the other end and Konchesky forces Young in to conceding a corner.
- 59': The corner is eventually dealt with by Charlton but Luke young appears to be injured and gesturing at the Charlton bench.
- 61': Jonathan Spector is coming on and Young is off for Charlton. That is a blow to the Addicks as Young was arguably their best player.
- 62': Perry miscues and slices a clearance to give West Ham another corner. This is headed behind for yet another corner. Myhre flaps at the ball but Charlton manage to get the ball away from danger.
- 63': Both teams appear to be coasting a little, safe in the knowledge that they will not be pulled in to the relegation battle and with one eye on FA cup glory.
- 64': Matt Holland gets forward and controls well under pressure before his snap shot is hit wide of the West Ham post.
- 65': Etherington gets behind the Charlton defence but his cross towards Sheringham is hit just too hard.
- 66': A good Charlton move involving Chris Powell, Matt Holland and Rommedahl is spoiled by Rommedahl's overhit final pass. Charlton at least have a corner but when the ball comes in they fail to trouble Shaka Hislop.
- 68': Hughes challenges Etherington to concede yet anothr corner. Benayoun's corner is nodded away by the Charlton defence and the Israeli is then blown up for being offside.
- 69': Jerome Thomas is on and Dennis Rommedahl has been taken off.
- 69': Bryan Hughes appears to have moved in to the middle of the park next to Matt Holland to accommodate this substitution.
- 70': Perry, under pressure from Reo-Coker, hits the ball behind for another corner. Marcus Bent makes a hash of the clearance and Benayoun fashions a chance for himself and spins round before hitting a low drive towards the goal. His effort is just wide of the post.
- 72': A poor effort from Holland goes well wide of the West Ham goal.
- 73': West Ham are fortunate to have been awarded a throw in deep in Charlton territory but they do not take advantage of the referee's generosity.
- 75': Bobby Zamora comes on for West Ham and Reo-Coker is off. Sheringham has been handed the captain's armband.
- 76': Collins mishits a ball to allow Charlton in behind the West Ham defence but the visitors waste the opportunity when they send a poor ball in to the West Ham penalty area.
- 78': Good defending from Kishishev stops Etherington's cross but it is another corner for West Ham. With almost his first touch, Zamora nearly scores. His towering header is stopped on the line by Kishishev once more. Best chance of the game so far. Charlton's defence have played well today.
- 80': Konchesky reads Charlton's quick free kick well and gets it up the park where (guess what?) Charlton have conceded yet another corner.
- 81': The corner is only cleared as far as Etherington who is well challenged by Jonathan Spector on the left hand side.
- 82': Some fine play from Harewood who beats Chris Powell but his cross is blocked and West Ham have another corner. Tha ball comes over and Myhre makes a wonderful instinctive save from Sheringham who connects from four yards out. Fine play from Chartlon's keeper.
- 84': West Ham are applying some late pressure here and seem to smell blood. Konchesky floats a delightful ball towards the head of Bobby Zamora but he just fails to get to it.
- 84': Jay Bothroyd is on for Marcus Bent and Marlon Harewood is replaced by Yaniv Katan.
- 87': Sheringham has just been pulled up for a foul throw. Showing his inexperience there.
- 89': Nothing is happening. Honestly.
- 90': Three minutes of time to be added on.
- 90': Some good play again by Etherington and Benayoun is halted when Kishishev puts in a fine challenge. Kishishev has probably been man of the match today.
- 92': Konchesky's ball is well blocked by Spector and the last act of the game will be a West Ham corner.
- 92': Benayoun gets his head to the ball but fails to direct it goalwards under pressure from Spector. Goal kick to Charlton.
- 93': FULL TIME
- 93': A mid-table, end of season piece of drudgery. Charlton defended well to keep West Ham out but West Ham did enough to win the game. Both teams can be forgiven for having one eye on their forthcoming FA Cup games. If Charlton do make it past Middlesbrough then let's hope these two can serve up more in the way of incident the next time they meet.
